After a full week of back-to-back work meetings and a wonderful stay at the Hyatt Place London City East, I am ready to slow down and see London like a traveler – not a commuter.
The energy of the city never seems to fade, and this weekend is my chance to soak it in.
As a Globalist with World of Hyatt, I always look for ways to turn work trips into personal adventures. With a few extra days on the calendar and a close friend living in West London, I decide to extend my stay, switch hotels, and explore a different side of the city.
I want this part of the trip to feel special. Not rushed. Not routine. Just a few days to enjoy one of the most iconic cities in the world – and to do it using points and perks I have carefully earned.
I end up booking a stay that I have been curious about for a long time – the Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill. It is a hotel that many people say captures something deeper than just location or luxury.
And thanks to a Suite Upgrade Award, I manage to unlock a much richer experience without spending extra cash.
This review covers what that upgrade gets me, what makes this property different from the rest, and how to know if it fits your next trip to London.
I have thoughts – and surprises – to share.
Hotel Award Booking (8/10)
The Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill currently falls under Category 7 in the World of Hyatt program (as of 2025). Award nights range from 25,000 points on off-peak dates to 35,000 points during peak times, with 30,000 points as the standard rate.
When I book my stay, the cash rate for a standard room is about $500 per night, which makes using points a much smarter option.

I also apply a Suite Upgrade Award, which places me in a Regency Suite Balcony. This suite regularly sells for around $1,000 per night, turning this redemption into a high-value play.
I actually book this two-night stay before the annual Hyatt category adjustments, when this hotel is still a Category 6. That lets me lock in the standard rate of 25,000 points per night, which adds even more upside.
While that is still a decent number of points, I feel good about the trade, especially given how expensive London hotels tend to be.
If I run the numbers, the point-to-dollar ratio on a standard room is not amazing – it hovers around 1.6 to 2.0 cents per point depending on the dates.
But that is not the full story.
With the Suite Night Upgrade, the redemption becomes far more valuable. And if you are traveling with family, using a Club Access Award, or just looking for a more spacious stay, this can turn into a great use of points.

Hotel Location And Public Transportation (8/10)

Credit. Hunter Threadgill. Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill Exterior.
The Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill sits in a prime spot in Marylebone, just northeast of Hyde Park. This central London location places you within walking distance of major attractions like Buckingham Palace, the British Museum, and Regent Street.
One of my favorite parts about staying here is how close Hyde Park is. I can step outside and be on a jogging path within minutes. When the weather cooperates, there is nothing better than a quiet morning run through one of the most iconic parks in the world.
For reference, the hotel address is:
30 Portman Square
London W1H 7BH
Parking
There is no on-site parking at this hotel.
That said, there are several nearby parking garages – or “car parks” as they are called locally.
Still, I do not recommend renting a car in central London. Between the narrow streets, heavy traffic, and congestion charges, it is rarely worth the hassle.
Public Transportation
This is where the hotel truly shines. It is surrounded by multiple public transit options:
- Marble Arch Station (Central Line)
- Bond Street Station (Elizabeth Line and Jubilee Line)
- Oxford Circus Station (Bakerloo, Victoria, and Central Lines)
All of these are within a 10-minute walk from the hotel, making it easy to reach destinations across the city.
If you are flying into London Heathrow (LHR), the trip is simple. I hop on the Elizabeth Line straight from the airport to Bond Street Station. From there, it is about a 10- to 15-minute walk to the hotel.
The full journey takes just under an hour and avoids the stress of taxis or traffic.
Vibe And Atmosphere (9/10)

Credit. Hunter Threadgill. Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill Lobby.
Compared to the quirky, modern feel of Hyatt Place London City East and Park Hyatt London River Thames, the Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill delivers something completely different – timeless British elegance.
As I walk up to the entrance, I am greeted by a brick-and-mortar façade that instantly reminds me of the classic homes you might find in the English countryside. Normally, I might suggest a fresh coat of paint for a building like this, but here, the unpolished charm fits the mood perfectly.
Inside, the hotel leans into traditional design in all the right ways. There is polished stone, refined Parliament-style décor, and staff dressed in formal British uniforms. Every detail seems carefully chosen to reflect a sense of calm, heritage, and understated luxury.
Two elements really stand out to me.
First, the fresh flower arrangement in the lobby feels like a centerpiece in an upscale townhouse. It is clearly the work of a professional designer.
Second, the Regency Club exudes the atmosphere of a classic London sitting room – quiet, polished, and ideal for a proper afternoon tea.
When I picture what a traditional British hotel should feel like, this is it. The Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill delivers that experience from the moment you arrive.
Hotel Check-In (8/10)
As I arrive at the Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill, a Ferrari parked in the driveway immediately catches my eye. It sets the tone – this hotel clearly draws a polished, high-end crowd.
A doorman in a tuxedo-style uniform opens the door with a warm welcome, instantly reminding me of my check-in at the Park Hyatt Vienna.

I head straight to the World of Hyatt elite check-in desk, located just to the right of the entrance. The front desk agent greets me with a friendly smile, thanks me for my Globalist status, and takes my ID and credit card to begin the check-in process.
Since I arrive well before standard check-in time, she lets me know that my suite is not yet ready. But instead of sending me away, she offers access to the Regency Club Lounge so I can wait comfortably.
I gladly accept, as I plan to finish out the workday. She also arranges to have my luggage sent directly to the room once it is ready and walks me to the elevator, handing me the lounge access key.
Lounge Access And Suite Surprise
I head up to the 8th floor to settle into the Club Lounge. It is quiet, refined, and the perfect place to catch up on emails while waiting for my suite.
After about two hours, I receive a call from the front desk – my room is ready, and my bags are already there.
I collect my keys from the Club Lounge Concierge and head up to room 903, a Regency Suite Balcony on the top floor. Waiting for me on the coffee table is a handwritten note apologizing for the delay, along with two boxes of chocolate wafers.
It is a thoughtful and personal touch that instantly makes the stay feel special. I share one box with my best friend when he arrives and tuck the other away to bring home for my wife.
Regency Suite Balcony – Living Space And Bedroom (7/10)
As I step into the Regency Suite Balcony, I immediately notice how the design extends the theme of refined British elegance.
From the contemporary furniture to the classic decorative touches, the space evokes the feeling of staying in a quiet, upper-class townhouse in the heart of London.
The Living Space
Right by the entrance, a full-wall mirror stretches across the left side – an unusual choice, but handy for one last check before heading out.
On the right, the minibar area resembles a small wet bar, minus the sink. Here, I find a MEG coffee machine using Lavazza pods, which actually offers a better cup than the one I get in the Regency Club.

The setup also includes a variety of tea bags, a kettle (a must-have in London), and a mini-fridge stocked with drinks for purchase. A room safe sits tucked inside one of the cabinets.
A standout detail is the collection of Winston Churchill books on display – an elegant nod to the hotel namesake and a personal touch I really appreciate.

Moving farther into the suite, I reach the work desk, which is well-sized and stocked with office essentials like a stapler and writing tools. Unfortunately, the power outlet is directly behind the desk, which means I have to move the whole unit to plug in a laptop or phone – a frustrating design miss.
The living area is spacious and cozy, featuring a sofa, armchair, coffee table, and a TV with Chromecast and international channels. It is a great spot for winding down with friends or catching up on news.

I also like that the desk chair easily doubles as extra seating.
At the back of the room, I step up to access the balcony – which also has an entrance from the bedroom.
The balcony is large and private, with stone tiling and separating walls between suites. It includes two chairs and a small table, though the brick railing blocks the view while seated.
Still, it overlooks a quiet private park, which adds a tranquil, green backdrop to the space. I imagine this spot is even more beautiful during the summer or fall, when the trees are full and lush.

This part of the suite feels like a peaceful retreat – great for relaxing with friends, family, or even colleagues after a day in the city.
The Bedroom
To the left of the mirror wall is the entrance to the bedroom, where a king-sized bed takes center stage. After a long week of work and walking all over London, I sleep like a rock.

Each side of the bed has nightstands with plenty of outlets and light switches, making it easy to control the room without getting up. I also appreciate that bottled water is placed on both sides – always helpful after a busy travel day.
Across from the bed, another TV with Chromecast and international channels mirrors the one in the living area.

TPA Pro Tip: Make sure you are connecting to the correct Chromecast before streaming – each TV has its own.
Near the balcony door, I find a small ottoman, perfect for sitting while putting on shoes before heading out. The second balcony entrance from this room makes the outdoor space even more accessible.
The air conditioning works well, which helps keep the room cool and comfortable through the night.
Regency Suite Balcony Bathroom (7/10)
Just off the bedroom, immediately to the left, is the bathroom. While not overly large, it makes smart use of the available space and continues the suite’s theme of understated elegance.
Upon entry, I find a closet on the left with a full-length mirror on the door. Inside are robes, slippers, hangers, and a luggage rack – all helpful additions for a comfortable stay.

Directly ahead is the shower. It is a bit compact, but not uncomfortably so. I have enough space to move around without contorting myself into awkward angles.

Credit. Hunter Threadgill. Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill Regency Suite Balcony Shower And Bathtub.
The shower features bulk-mounted Molton Brown products, which feel like a notable upgrade from the typical Pharmacopia amenities I often see at Hyatt Regency locations in Hyatt Regency Boston, Hyatt Regency Seattle, or the Hyatt Regency London Blackfriars.

Next to the shower is a bathtub, which interestingly includes a high-mounted shower wand. It is usable for a standing rinse, although the lack of a glass partition means water can easily splash into the rest of the bathroom.
Unlike the main shower, the bathtub features individual Molton Brown toiletries – a luxurious bonus. I actually save these to bring home for my wife, as they smell amazing.
At the far end of the room is the toilet, and just to the left is the vanity, which has a single sink and ample counter space. I especially appreciate the variety of included amenities like dental kits and shaving kits.

The shaving kit, in particular, is compact enough to fit into my carry-on – perfect for longer work or personal trips.
Hotel Amenities And Facilities (8/10)
The Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill offers several amenities: the Regency Club Lounge, gym, and a spa and hair salon facility. I do not partake in any spa or hair treatments this trip, so I will not be reviewing that part of the hotel.
The Regency Club Lounge

Credit. Hunter Threadgill. Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill Regency Club Lounge.
Located on the eighth floor, the Regency Club Lounge is one of the standout features of this hotel. It provides a quiet, elegant space to relax, get work done, or enjoy a light meal.
Layout And Features
When I arrive, I am surprised to find the lounge split into two distinct areas, one on each side of the hallway. The main lounge is on the right, and the secondary lounge is on the left.
The main space offers the full experience – comfortable seating, a wider variety of food and drinks, and a calm atmosphere that works for both relaxing and being productive. There are dining tables, lounge chairs, and even a small business corner stocked with newspapers.
I spend a few hours here finishing up work and enjoy the natural light and window views.
A unique feature I notice is the shower in the lounge bathroom. While I do not use it, this could be very helpful if you arrive in London early and do not have access to an arrivals lounge at the airport.
You would likely need to speak with the front desk or a lounge attendant to use it.
Food And Beverage Offerings
Throughout the day, the lounge offers cookies, cakes, whole fruit, and a variety of soft drinks and bottled water. A coffee machine dispenses espresso drinks, and there is an excellent selection of British teas.

In the evening, the happy hour spread includes:
- An open wine selection
- A self-serve cocktail bar
- A fridge stocked with beer
- Light food options like meats, cheeses, breads, soup, and a salad bar

It is not a full dinner, but definitely enough to serve as a pre-dinner appetizer before heading out.
For breakfast, the lounge provides a continental buffet with cold cuts, pastries, cereal, fruit, and bread. It is a light spread, but convenient for those who want a quick bite or prefer not to go downstairs.

TPA Pro Tip: You can order room service to the lounge.
The Gym
The fitness center is located on the second floor, and I manage to get in a solid workout on my first day. As I enter, I see a cooler stocked with water bottles and chilled towels – a nice bonus for post-workout refreshment or just grabbing extra water if you do not have lounge access.

Credit. Hunter Threadgill. Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill Gym.
The gym offers a well-rounded mix of equipment: Peloton bikes, treadmills, rowing machines, dumbbells, and several weight machines. There is also a dedicated space for yoga or bodyweight exercises, and a wall-mounted cable machine.

While the gym is not massive (the Park Hyatt London River Thames still holds the crown for best hotel gym in the city), it has everything I need for a full-body session. This is a great space to maintain strength and stay active while traveling.
TPA Pro Tip: The Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill is just steps from Hyde Park. On clear days, the park offers some of the best urban running routes in London.
Breakfast (7/10)
For guests without Regency Club Lounge access – or those simply looking for more variety – breakfast is also served at The Montagu Kitchen, the lobby-level restaurant in the hotel.
As soon as I arrive, the hostess seats me quickly, and I order a cappuccino, which turns out to be smooth and well-balanced. From there, I head to explore the buffet.
The dining room is large, with multiple buffet stations spread throughout the space. This layout does a great job minimizing crowding. I never need to wait in line for any items, which makes the entire experience feel relaxed, even during the morning rush.
The buffet focuses on classic English breakfast staples, including:
- Scrambled eggs, sausage, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, and baked beans
- Pancakes and porridge
- Cold cuts, cheeses, and fresh salads
- A wide variety of breads and pastries – easily more than a dozen options
- Cereals, yogurts, and fresh fruit

One thoughtful detail: the buffet includes a dedicated gluten-free section, with gluten-free breads and baked goods clearly marked. This is a big plus for travelers with dietary restrictions.
In addition to the buffet, there is a menu of made-to-order options. I go with a bowl of porridge, which hits the spot and keeps me full for a few hours.
On-Site Dining (7/10)
The Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill offers two primary on-site dining options: The Montagu Kitchen and the Churchill Bar & Terrace.
While I do not dine at The Montagu Kitchen for lunch or dinner, the breakfast experience gives me the impression that meals here are well-executed. If the same quality carries over, I imagine it would be a reliable option for a casual evening meal without having to leave the hotel.
My Experience At The Churchill Bar & Terrace
On my first night, I head to the Churchill Bar & Terrace – the stylish hotel bar located just off the restaurant. After exiting the elevator, I turn left and walk through the restaurant. The hallway to the bar is tucked into the back right corner, but it is easy to find.
As I enter, I notice right away that the space is bustling with locals, giving it a lively, authentic feel. The atmosphere is cozy and refined – like a mix between a British library and a gentleman’s club.

Credit. Hunter Threadgill. Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill Bar.
Even though the weather is not too cold, a decorative fireplace in the corner adds to the ambiance.
I take a seat at the bar, and the bartender hands me a cocktail menu. The drinks are definitely on the pricier side, but they are well-crafted and come with complimentary bar snacks, which helps justify the cost.
I order the Dundee cocktail, a signature drink honoring Winston Churchill’s 150th birthday. Inspired by his fondness for Dundee cake, the cocktail blends cognac, sangue morlacco (a cherry liqueur), and sherry. It is rich, balanced, and absolutely delicious.

Credit. Hunter Threadgill. Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill Bar.
I enjoy it so much that I would gladly recommend it – even at £19 ($25).
After finishing my drink, I feel the day catching up to me. I settle my tab and head back to my suite, happy to have experienced such a charming and distinctly British bar without leaving the hotel.
Staff And Service (8/10)
The staff at the Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill consistently delivers top-tier service, marked by classic British etiquette and a deep understanding of hospitality done right.
Even though I do not encounter any issues during my stay, I get the sense that the staff is empowered to resolve problems quickly and with care – an important sign of a well-managed hotel.
From the moment I arrive, every team member – from the doorman to the front desk, and from the Regency Club attendants to the restaurant and bar staff – seems genuinely committed to creating a refined and welcoming guest experience.
The service feels both professional and personal.
One standout moment comes during check-in. Although I arrive early and my room is not yet ready, the front desk agent handles it with empathy and decisiveness. She offers me access to the Regency Club Lounge, arranges to have my bags delivered, and even walks me to the elevator herself.
It is a small gesture, but it shows genuine care. She never makes me feel like an inconvenience – that is true hospitality.
Over at the Churchill Bar, I also receive excellent service. The bartender is not only experienced but also highly knowledgeable about the cocktail menu. When I ask for a recommendation, he confidently suggests the Dundee cocktail and explains the story behind it.
While I sip my drink, he keeps my water glass filled and brings over complimentary bar snacks, adding to the comfort of the evening.
As someone traveling solo that night, I especially appreciate the warm, welcoming vibe. It may have something to do with the British pub culture, but the staff genuinely seems to want guests to feel at home.
Their effort pays off – it turns what could have been just another hotel bar visit into a memorable experience.
World of Hyatt Status And Benefits (8/10)
The Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill does an excellent job recognizing my World of Hyatt Globalist status.
From the moment I check in, it is clear that elite members are valued. All of my benefits are acknowledged without needing to ask – something I truly appreciate as a frequent guest.
Globalist Benefits
Here is a quick breakdown of the elite perks I enjoy during my stay:
- Complimentary Breakfast: I have the choice of breakfast at The Montagu Kitchen or in the Regency Club Lounge. Having both options available is a great perk – especially for those who prefer either a larger buffet or a more peaceful lounge setting.
- Complimentary Suite Upgrade: I use a Suite Upgrade Award for this stay, but based on how smoothly everything is handled, I am confident the hotel would offer an upgrade even on a standard booking – if space allows.
- Regency Club Lounge Access: I can access the Regency Club Lounge throughout the day. It is a convenient place to grab water, coffee, or a soda, even when I do not need a full meal.
- 30% Bonus Points: Since I am staying on a free night award, I do not earn points for the room. However, I still receive bonus points on my spending at the bar, which is tracked correctly and posts quickly.
I get the sense that this property sees a healthy number of points-savvy Globalists, and the staff knows how to honor elite status without hesitation or fuss.
It is stays like this that remind me why I stay loyal to Hyatt.
The benefits feel real, appreciated, and consistently delivered – a true win for the World of Hyatt program and a big reason why I keep choosing Hyatt for both business and leisure travel.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I truly enjoy my stay at the Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill.
From the moment I arrive to the moment I check out, I feel wrapped in a sense of refined, old-school British elegance.
The design of the rooms and shared spaces leans into a classic, upper-class London aesthetic – with polished touches, rich textures, and a Regency Club Lounge that feels equally welcoming and elevated.
What stands out most is the impeccable service. Every staff member I encounter carries the kind of professionalism and poise that reflects what many imagine traditional British hospitality to be. Their attention to detail – and to each guest – creates a sense of warmth beneath the formality.
While there is room for improvement in the breakfast experience, especially when it comes to food quality, I still find it more than sufficient. As a complimentary perk for Globalists, it provides a solid, no-cost way to start the day before heading out to explore the city.
As this trip wraps up, I am especially looking forward to trying out British Airways Premium Economy on the 787-8 for the flight home. I am curious to see how it stacks up against my recent experiences in British Airways Club Suite on the A350-1000 and Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy on the A330-900neo.
