Alaska Airlines New Routes: London, Reykjavik, And A Global Dreamliner Livery

Travelers in the Pacific Northwest and beyond have a new reason to celebrate.

Alaska Airlines is ramping up its international expansion in 2026 with two major new routes from Seattle – nonstop flights to London (Heathrow) and Reykjavik, Iceland.

The airline is also rolling out a stunning new Boeing 787 Dreamliner livery inspired by the Northern Lights, part of its transformation into a premium global carrier.

These moves mark a turning point for Alaska Airlines, which has traditionally focused on domestic and short-haul international flying.

After acquiring Hawaiian Airlines in 2024, Alaska is now positioned to compete with the best in the world on long-haul routes – offering more choices, better experiences, and enhanced opportunities for travelers and loyalty program members.

Alaska Airlines is expanding its international reach in a big way, introducing nonstop service from Seattle to two of the most exciting destinations in Europe.

Year-Round Service: Seattle To London

Alaska Airlines will offer daily, year-round service from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to London Heathrow (LHR) – the largest and most sought-after European destination for Seattle flyers.

Over 400 travelers journey between these two cities every day, and this new Dreamliner route creates more options for both business and leisure travel. The airport at London Heathrow also acts as a major hub for oneworld alliance partners, including American Airlines and British Airways, opening up easy connections across Europe and beyond.

Summer-Season Service: Seattle To Reykjavik

For travelers looking for adventure, Alaska will fly daily to Keflavik Airport (KEF) in Reykjavik during the busy summer season.

This route, operated with a Boeing 737 MAX 8, is ideal for those seeking the natural wonders of Iceland – from geothermal spas and volcanoes to the midnight sun.

The Boeing 737 MAX 8 features 12 recliners in First Class and 30 Premium Class seats, offering comfort even on the seven-hour flight.

Expanding Beyond Europe

These new routes follow the recent Alaska Airlines launches to Tokyo, with future service to Seoul and Rome on the horizon.

It is a clear sign Alaska Airlines is setting its sights on global travel from its Seattle hub.

Alaska Airlines is not only expanding its network but also unveiling a fresh, premium look for its new flagship fleet.

The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, the first twin-aisle aircraft for Alaska, features a livery inspired by the aurora borealis – blending deep blues and shimmering greens to capture the energy and spirit of the Northern Lights.

The familiar “Alaska” branding remains up front in bold navy blue, but the design of the aircraft signals a leap toward a modern, global identity. This new livery will debut in January 2026, with all 787 Dreamliners repainted by April.

The rest of the Alaska fleet will keep its classic tail design, maintaining a connection to its roots while the airline steps onto the world stage.

How The Hawaiian Airlines Acquisition Changes The Game

The Alaska Airlines 787 Dreamliners were originally ordered by Hawaiian Airlines before the 2024 merger.

As Alaska expands long-haul service, these jets will transition from Hawaiian branding to the new Alaska international livery, giving passengers a premium business-class suite experience with lie-flat seats, direct aisle access, and advanced entertainment.

The Hawaiian brand, however, will continue to operate its legacy Airbus A330s for long-haul service to Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific.

Good news for loyal Hawaiian customers: Alaska has promised an overhaul of the A330 cabins, introducing a new Business Class product and the first true Premium Economy cabin for the airline.

This will ensure the Hawaiian onboard experience matches the premium level of the new Alaska 787 Dreamliners.

What This Means For Alaska Mileage Plan Members

For points and miles enthusiasts, the Alaska Airlines international expansion is big news.

Members of the popular Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan program will gain new options for award redemptions on long-haul routes. The new flights also increase connectivity with oneworld alliance partners, giving travelers more opportunities to maximize their points.

Even more change is coming: Alaska is planning to unveil a brand-new loyalty program, bringing together the Alaska and Hawaiian brands under one, unified rewards experience.

This could mean more ways to earn and redeem miles (including a new premium credit card), broader benefits, and greater value for frequent travelers.
